Am I Still Winging It?

Well, it happened. I was called a senior attorney for the first time. Somehow I went from being a baby lawyer to someone with an inkling of experience. How is that possible? I certainly don’t feel like someone with seniority. So let’s talk about it — the Imposter Syndrome in the room.
Everyone doubts themselves, especially starting out in their career. But what about when you’re still doubting 6 years later? How do you overcome those negative thoughts?
I’ve found that sometimes confidence simply comes with time. But other times you just need someone else to tell you you’re right and to say they believe in you. Thankfully, I have that support system now in a way I never had before. I am so grateful. I think sharing your ups and downs with others is so important.
I’ve also found that you have to put in the hard work to change your mindset. Everything is “figureoutable” and just about any mistake can be fixed. So I think it’s important that we be gentle with ourselves and remind ourselves that we are competent and qualified. If you wait until you know everything, you’ll never begin. And life is about the journey.
